ADVICE – From Auckland Council & Auckland Emergency Management regarding CYCLONE VAIANU
Auckland Council are working with AEM to assess if emergency community hubs will need to be set up this weekend in our area
Please be prepared and keep up to date
Cyclone Vaianu is expected to bring strong winds and heavy rain to the Auckland region on Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 April.
The combination of damaging winds, heavy rain and large swells makes this a multi-hazard, potentially life-threatening event
It’s important to keep up-to-date with weather forecasts.
AEM’s latest public education marketing and communications campaign encourages Aucklanders to be prepared for when Cyclone Vananu hit's. This includes radio advertising, social media and website content. You might have seen some messages already.
DURING STORM EVENTS:
• Stay up to date with forecasts, follow MetService New Zealand
• Plan travel carefully, drive to the conditions and never drive through flood water
• Do not walk or play in flood water, it can be contaminated, and contain hidden hazards and debris
• Prepare for power outages - keep your devices charged and if you rely on medical equipment, make sure your back up plan is ready
• If your life or property is at risk, phone 111
• For blocked drains or stormwater issues phone Auckland Council on 09 301 0101
• Report trees down on public land using ‘Report a problem’ at https://www.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz/.../report-a-problem...
