Waiuku’s Steel ‘N’ Wheels Festival 2018 on Sunday 29th April was a massive day!
A huge thank you to this year’s event sponsors; NZ Steel, SteelServ, the Franklin Local Board and Blue Sky Community Trust for making this event possible for our town.
Thank you to our wonderful community, all the exhibitors and visitors who traveled to attend this event. You helped make it an incredible success!
A fantastic range of cars, bikes, hot-rods, classics and vintage cars gave festival go-ers plenty to look at with something for everyone, ‘petrolheads’ or not.
Hot attractions of the day were The Kumho Jet Car which was again a mind numbing blast leaving the crowd stunned , the fantastic NZ Freestyle FMX stunt riders we just couldn’t get enough of, the Armed Offenders Squad, the NZ Police Dogs display was just wonderful and put a smile on the face of everyone in sight, and was really popular with the children.
The Waiuku Voluntary Fire Brigade did their Car Cutting display and promoted their safety messages, there was the Car Crush, and of course the awesome V8 Bottle-O Chainsaw racing the Harley Chainsaw for another impressive show and their unique Steel ‘n’ Wheels souvenir ‘cuts’ on sale.
The range of live entertainment was a real hit with great performances from the ‘Hot Diggity’ Bluegrass band, the Tim Armstrong band, ‘Mind Over Matter’, and the ‘Sunset Coast Big Band’. The ‘Franklin Rockers’ dance group injected a fabulous burst of colour and energy in rock ‘n’ roll style, and the amazing ‘Groovit’ dance crew were on their game. The children and young at heart enjoyed a variety of carnival activities and there was a great range of culinary delights, gifts and nostalgia for all at the Market.
People of all ages were talking about their favourite attractions as they left and wanting more!
Thanks again to everyone who came along to the event and we look forward to seeing you next year!
The date is set for 2019 -Sunday May 12th (Mothers Day) 10am-2pm
