Waiuku’s Steel ‘n’ Wheels Festival 2017 brought new and exciting attractions and exhibits for the whole family and some smashing entertainment “baby”!
The Waiuku Business & Development Association would like to thank the community, our fantastic volunteers, the exhibitors, market stallholders and our event sponsors; NZ Steel, SteelServ, the Franklin Local Board and the Lion Foundation, for making this event such a success! After a bit of a slow start due to weather conditions, the event turned into yet another fantastic day with people pouring in from near and far to support this iconic community event. Thank you everyone!
Popular attractions included the Kumho Jet Car which packed a huge punch, the WW2 Military Reenactment, Emergency Services display and the “Nightmare” dragster.
There was plenty to see, a great variety of vehicles to admire and the purring of all kinds of motors to hear.
“Austin Powers” and “Elvis” were a huge hit and live bands “No Way Back”, “Loose Units”, the “Waiuku Country Music Club band” and the “Sunset Coast Big Band”, meant festival goers could enjoy some great sounds from every corner of the event. The Contingent dance crew wowed us with their talents, the Franklin Rockers came to the party with their rock ‘n’ roll jives and Waiuku Line dancers strutted their stuff. It was great to see all the smiling faces enjoying our local dance groups, the ladies swooning at Elvis and just a great community buzz!
