The Waiuku Rotary Club brings you their annual Sunset Coast Walk.
Less than an hour out of Auckland, the Awhitu Peninsula stretching from Waiuku to the Manukau Heads is an area of outstanding scenic beauty with extensive views along the West Coast, Tasman Sea and back over the Manukau Harbour.
Set on private farmland, the Sunset Coast Walk offers walkers the opportunity to enjoy a wider range of walks this year.
So if you thought you had seen it all in previous years come & find some more stunning views & interesting parts of this fascinating landscape to explore.
This year we have four walks: 5km, 7km, 8km or 11km.
Register on the day by Eftpos or Cash, any time from 7.30AM to 1.00PM
Cost: $20.00 adults – College students $10 – Primary School students and younger FREE.
The walk takes you through rolling farmland to the more rugged contour along the West Coast. Ranging from pushchair possible to more challenging hillsides. Sea & harbour views on some of the walks, cliff top views on the 3 longer walks.
Make your way to Waiuku then follow the road signs to the registration base.
There will be a complementary cold drink and hot sausage waiting for you when you return from your walk.
Bring your water bottle, good walking shoes and a picnic lunch, or purchase an extra sausage to enjoy in the shade of the trees. Also available is the mobile coffee van.
This is not a competitive walk but a chance for families to walk at their own pace and enjoy the surroundings. Sorry NO DOGS or PETS allowed.
Over 600 walkers enjoyed the day last year so with some small changes to the route
the Waiuku Rotary Club is optimistic of another top day.
The principal benefactors for this walk will be local community and youth projects.
From the car-park it’s worth a drive to Kariaotahi Surf Beach on the West Coast for a swim or explore further up the Awhitu Peninsular to the beautiful sandy beaches of the Awhitu Regional Park on the Manukau Harbour. Check the information tent for more details.
Don’t forget your camera and sun tan lotion and we’ll see you all on the 25th Feb.
As part of Sea Week, Awhitu Landcare and Franklin Local Board have organised walks in Waiuku and Awhitu.
Discover what picturesque surroundings and sea vistas we have in our own town for everyone to enjoy.

Meeting at the Tamakae reserve at 11am for the best harbour views.
This is a gentle walk and will take 60-90 minutes.
